A bump in the road...

Hey all,

:/

My original post for today was going to be this:

So we’re finally filming today (3/31)! I've been waiting for this day for a while and I’m ecstatic it’s finally here.

Our original plan was to film at my house utilizing my parents bedroom, bathroom, and our kitchen.
Our new filming location is my friend Tomas’s house! To introduce him, Tomas Quilaqueo is a sophomore at my High school and I’ve known him for 4 years. He’s been in the CBTV club for 2 years now, but on his own he produced/created videos utilizing top quality cameras. He’s a great friend of mine and was more than happy to offer a hand with our film opening.

He’s also helping us with the filming process :)

His house is spacious and conveys the exact kind of demeanor my partner and I desire.

Cant wait to share the process with y'all and some sneak peaks ;) !

But sadly, it didn't work out that way.

Our plan to film fell through because our actor had an emergency. This was a slight minor setback and my partner and I were anxious about this news.

Even though our plan to film on Saturday fell through me and my partner maneuvered around this problem and scheduled to film the beginning of next week on Monday and Tuesday (April 2nd and 3rd).

I'm grateful to have Taylor Wolf as a partner because her and I quickly overcame this bump in the road and calmed our nerves about our filming being completed in at a reasonable time.

Coloring of our opening !

Hello, Hello, Hello!

In this post I want to speak about the coloration of our film opening.

In any production, conveying the tone/mood efficiently is important. This can be done in numerous ways. One way that my partner and I want to focus on is the coloring/hue of our opening. Since our genre is Horror/Thriller, we felt that adding an overall dark tint and lowering the saturation will have an increasingly positive effect on conveying the mood.

Taylor Wolf (My partner) has a program on her computer called Magic Bullet Looks. This program allows you to add different coloring and tints to your project. We both feel that this will definitely help us achieve the correct mood we desire.

A production that utilized color alteration is The Matrix and Transformers. The Matrix utilized this technique to give the production a more authentic feel. An example is below.

Transformers also did this by changing the color of the robots in the movie from black and gray to turquoise and orange. This aided in conveying to the audience that these autobots were foreign and alien like. An example of this is below.

Side note:
Tomorrow (Monday, March 26) we start filming and i'm very excited! Once we begin the editing process i'm positive this post will come in handy and will be on my mind.

Thats all for now folks!

Thanks for reading.

More to come,

Peace Out :D

Marketing/Distribution Research :3

Hello to you all!

It’s Saturday!

In this post I want to speak about marketing/distribution in general and for our genre! As I've said before, research creates a basis and allows you to further your knowledge on a topic or subject that is unclear or unknown to you.

Distribution:
- When distributing your production to the public, If tickets are not bought to the movie or downloaded, the film won’t make money in return which will be lost.
-  Films are expensive to produce and when distributing it to the public, tickets sales are vital for making profit.

Marketing:
- To successfully market a film when made, advertising it in numerous ways is important. Marketing a film also enables the audience to gain a sense of what to expect in your creation.  The way in which a film is promoted can have a large effect on whether or not it is successful.

Some tips when marketing your production are:
- Produce something WORTH talking about.
- Expand your digital platform
- Make Advertisements/Trailers
- Utilize techniques based on your target audience

- Social media is an outlet that is used heavily for promotion presently. This statistics on this graph contribute to the age group that mostly attends a movie theater to watch a movie but also uses social media as a platform to gain knowledge of a new film.

Sound Dilema

Happy Friday y'all!

Today is the start of my spring break!
Before I go on my short vacation I want to speak to you guys about our little dilemma with incorporating sound into our film opening.

My partner and I are both at a crossroads about whether to include a song in our film opening or just atmospheric noise.

My partner as you know her, Taylor Wolf, is interested in including a song into the opening. Im not opposed to the idea, but obtaining the copy rights for a specific song will be hard. Choosing the song that fits perfectly with our creation will also be a challenge, but i’m up for it if thats what we decide!

I proposed that we included atmospheric noises and included foley sounds into our production. Taylor thought this idea was great and wouldn’t mind going this route either but she still wanted to include a song someway.

I asked my peers their thoughts and advice and I got a mix of responses. Some people thought adding the song would be a good choice and could further convey a "morning routine" well. Others favored the option for no music but atmospheric noises and foley sounds. This was only because to them, a song would take away from the opening itself and its purpose.

The decision hasn’t put a lot of pressure on me but it’s definitely made me quite uneasy since we are starting to film next week.

My partner and I are going to make the decision before we start filming, so i promise to let you know what we decide!

A basis...

Happy Sunday to you all,

In this posting of mine, I want to state the basis and importance of the research, itself, I have been doing. I also want to tell and (can't wait to show) you all our filming location, our actor, and any information I've left out.

Research itself my seem like a drag and unnecessary in a film production, but that is where you're wrong.
Research has many benefits including it being a great tool to expand your knowledge and intellect on a certain subject, being able to provide a foundation for your creation, and enable yourself to have a increased comprehension of a task at hand.

So, moral of the story:
Do your research because its crucial to the production process!

Next, I want to speak about our film location and actor for our film opening!

So, our film location will be at my house. We will be utilizing my parents bathroom, bedroom, the kitchen area, and the family area. The set design (my house) is perfect for the time frame we plan to convey our story in, the layout of my house also works very well with our specifics in filming.

Our actor for our film opening wasn't too difficult to find. In our film opening, me and my partner decided not to show the face of the person to add to the suspense of it all. So without further ado here is our actor.... Connor Lewis!

In this photo of him he looks quite happy (which is a good thing!) BUT in our project, he will look much less joyful :)

Thanks for reading!

More to come,

Peace out for now :)

Our Finalized Storyboard!

Happy Saturday!

This is a quick little posting to show our finalized storyboard.

Im so proud of how far we've come and how developed our idea is. We included a lot of shots, angles and movement into our film opening and i'm beaming with excitement to shoot it!

A storyboard as I said before is important because:
- Its a convenient way to share your idea with your peers.
- It aids in the production process by keeping you on track
- Saves time in the production process and filming by having a guideline to follow

Hope you enjoy it!

Im always open to constructive criticism and thank you for following along in our project process so far!

More to come,

Peace out :)

Advice, tips and help from my peers!

Hellooooo people of the Internet!
Its Friday :D

happy will smith GIF

Today we met in groups, in our class, to talk about our ideas and give each other help in any areas of our project. I received a lot of tips, alternate ideas and advice on me and my partner, Taylor Wolf's set idea/storyboard. In my group was Sofia J, Connor, Sebastian, and Coral C. They were a great set of hands when I was unsure of something and needed assistance.

Me and my partner were stuck and debating on whether to include a few things into our film opening.  Examples of these are inserting a scene where our main character would be sharpening a knife before slicing a banana. Another would be to include a door that looked out of place and make this known to the audience. After discussing these with the group, they told me to keep the scene with the sharpening of the knife to include emphasis on it and slow down the action itself. If I were to do this, it would add emphasis to his intricate personality and allude to possible past actions. The group also thought the idea of the door was necessary to further convey to the audience of his past actions (kidnapping the child).

Other ideas that I didn't mention in the paragraph above but are extremely relevant:
- To convey the out of place door/introduce it, Sofia said to do this using a Dolly shot. I thought her idea was a perfect and interesting way to foreshadow the importance of the door.
- To emphasize that this man had kidnapped this child, Connor suggested that at the end of our opening to include a child's voice saying: "Help me.." I thought Connors idea was GREAT and would immensely help the portrayal of the trapped child and add to the overall mood of the opening.

Me and my partner are also going to include foley sounds into our production and might put a song in the background. We definitely are going to include atmospheric sound but are deliberating about that song to be included.

This project is important to me and Im VERY excited to start filming it! Our idea finally is whole and we have so many cool angles, shots, movement, and techniques going into our film opening to convey our idea.

Thank you for reading and Im also eager to show you guys the finalized storyboard!!!

More to come,

Production and Character Development Research

Hello!

In this posting im going to talk about Production and Character development for films with the Horror/Thriller genre.

Production:
Generally, horror film require unique lighting technique and other specifics. In a horror film it is mist important to have a Mood, Tone and Texture. As I've previously said that horror/thriller films can have a style to them. In creating this style and that classic horror mood, sound design and cinematography are crucial.

Some tips on production for this genre are:
- Shoot through things (Give your shots more texture)
- Underexpose (Can lead in creating a more mysterious feeling)
- Include a tasteful amount of haze to your scene (Add texture)
- Find unique angles and shot opportunities (Aid in creating an unsettling feeling with the audience)

Character Development:
A crucial step in developing your character is research. This research will allow you to create this character to the best of your ability. This research will also aid in a deeper understanding of who and how the character your creating reacts to its surrounding world.

Some tips on developing a character in a film:
- When introducing a new character, you want to feed the audience your wisdom about this character little by little.
- When humans express how they are feeling body language is often used. If including this into your film it can heighten the communication of the protagonists feelings.
- Providing a sense of connection for the audience is important and will improve your film as a whole. Your characters values, morals and how they perceive the world is a way to provide that opportunity for connection.
- Avoid clichés. It will destroy the development of your character through your film.

Thinking and figuring out ways to appeal to your target audience also plays a crucial part in production and character development.

Pce out :)

The start of our storyboard! :D

Happy Saturday!

In this posting i'm going to show you and talk about our storyboard that we started for our film opening.

A storyboard is extremely important to create/have from any film project. It serves as a guideline when filming and will help keep your ideas and storyline on track and flow nicely. This week we also found our filming location, which is my house. A lot of our props for our film opening are everyday household items so I don't think we will have a problem gathering everything we need. Our idea is also a step away from being finalized. The story board that we started really helped us sort through ideas and pick which exact scenarios we want to include and specific film techniques to enhance our opening.

Below is the start of our storyboard:

Im incredibly eager to finish this up and deliberate more about which angles, shots, and movement we will include into our project. We also have to think about music that we are going to include and sounds like foley and more. Its exciting to get closer and closer to finalizing out project.

Me and my partner have great ideas for the opening and are working together in creating an AMAZING film opening which everyone will enjoy! :)

Hope you like what we have so far,

More to come,

Peace Out :)

Research about our Genre!

Hi all!

I am currently watching the 90th Oscars while finishing up this post.

So, now I want to talk to you about our Genre.

Genre is extremely important to develop and resonate through an entire film. For me personally I am going to be doing this with my film opening. Me and my partner knew that choosing a specific genre for our project was going to be difficult. After bouncing back ideas we chose to focus on the Horror/Thriller genre.

Horror:

The Horror genre is fictional and usually intends to bring fear, panic, alarm and more to its audience. This genre has been around since the 1900s and can have many different styles incorporated in them. Some of the earliest films consisted of many vampires, monsters and more. An example of this is  Dracula (1931). This film was the story of a blood-sucking, menacing vampire named Dracula. This film is widely known and one of the earliest classic American horror films.

The Horror Genre as the years have gone by have increased in production. 2016 and 2017 were years of great success for the horror genre. Some of the films that contributed to this were Get Out (2017), It (2017), Happy Death Day (2017) and more. The Horror genre has collected $733 million in ticket sales according to Box Office Mojo.
